Behind Every Flame+Sugar Candle Series
Part 2 of 4
Choosing a candle wick isn’t just about lighting a flame. It’s about creating an experience.
As I explained in Behind Every Flame+Sugar Candle, every material used in a Flame+Sugar candle is selected with intention. That includes our natural wood and cotton wicks.

Wood wicks burn differently than traditional cotton wicks.
Not every fragrance or vessel performs best with a wood wick, which is why some Flame+Sugar collections feature natural cotton wicks instead. Every candle is tested to determine which wick produces the safest and most enjoyable burn.
They create a soft flicker, produce the gentle crackle many people love, and offer a modern aesthetic that pairs beautifully with our minimalist vessels. Like any natural material, wood wicks also require a little more care.
Keeping the wick trimmed helps create a consistent flame and encourages an even melt pool across the surface of the candle.
The wick, wax, vessel, and fragrance all work together. Changing one element changes the entire candle.
That’s one reason handmade candle making takes timeāand why each collection is carefully tested before it’s ever offered for sale.
