“Why are handmade candles more expensive?”
The answer isn’t complicated. Quality materials simply cost more.
If you’ve been following this series, you’ve already learned why we choose premium coconut soy wax, natural wood and cotton wicks, and thoughtfully sourced essential oils and naturally derived fragrance oils.
Those materials come at a higher cost than mass-produced alternatives. Then there’s the time.
Every Flame+Sugar candle is poured by hand in small batches. Each vessel is cleaned, wicked, poured, cured, inspected, labeled, and packaged by me. There are no factory production lines or automated filling machines. There is simply a commitment to doing things well.
Before a candle ever reaches your home, it has also gone through testing to ensure the wick, fragrance, vessel, and wax all perform together safely and consistently. That testing takes time, materials, and patience.
Could I reduce costs by using cheaper wax, lower-quality vessels, synthetic dyes, or inexpensive fragrance oils? Absolutely.
But that wouldn’t reflect the values behind Flame+Sugar. When you purchase a handmade candle, you’re supporting craftsmanship, thoughtful sourcing, and the belief that quality is worth investing in.
It’s not just about buying a candle. It’s about bringing home something made with care, intention, and pride.
