Natural Hand Poured Candles
Behind Every Flame+Sugar Candle, 4 Part Series
Every Flame+Sugar candle begins with a simple idea: create something I’d be proud to burn in my own home.
That philosophy guides every decision I make—from the ingredients I choose to the way each candle is crafted. Every candle is hand-poured by me in small batches, using thoughtfully selected materials and a commitment to quality over convenience.
But what does that actually mean?
It means starting with a premium coconut and soy wax blend that provides a beautiful burn while staying true to my goal of using naturally derived ingredients. You can learn more about why I chose this wax in Why We Use Coconut Soy Wax.
It means carefully pairing each candle with either a natural wood wick or cotton wick, depending on what performs best for that particular fragrance and vessel. Read more in Why Wood Wicks Burn Differently.
It means using therapeutic-grade essential oils the vast majority of the time and being transparent when a scent requires a premium naturally derived fragrance oil instead. I explain that choice in Essential Oils vs. Fragrance Oils.

It also means continually searching for better ingredients, materials, and processes—always looking for ways to improve while staying true to my commitment to thoughtful, naturally inspired products. My “All Natural” promise isn’t about following a trend; it’s about making intentional choices and continuing to raise the standard behind every Flame+Sugar creation.
And it means accepting that quality ingredients and small-batch craftsmanship cost more—but believing they’re worth it. If you’ve ever wondered why handmade candles are priced differently than mass-produced ones, you’ll find the answer in Why Handmade Candles Cost More.
For me, hand-poured and all-natural isn’t just a process—it’s a promise. Every candle is made with care, intention, and materials I genuinely believe in. This series takes you behind the scenes of Flame+Sugar, sharing not only how my candles are made, but why I choose to make them this way.
